I’m sharing a few tips and basics around how I use our range. We’ve been getting a few questions lately – which is great because it means people are switching to more natural products like the Facial Oil Cleanser and wanting to know exactly how to use it.
So here’s a closer look at how our products are designed to be used.
There are also so many things which can affect our skin health – stress, hormones, hydration, diet, environmental factors, products etc. It’s important to remember that everyone’s skin is so individual. What works for you may not work for others and vice versa.
So this is a guide to using the Babs Bodycare range, but you may like to use it another way or have any tips of your own.
Numero uno importanto – Cleansing!
This is the first thing I notice is slacking in my routine if my skin is looking a little dull or having flare ups or breakouts. While I’ve been wearing less and less makeup the past year, cleansing at night can become a bit of a missed or lazy step, especially in the cooler months. But it is arguably the most important step to prepare skin and get the most out of your skincare.
AM – most mornings skin will need just a light gentle cleanse. Our Gentle Foaming Cleanser is great and easy to use along with a face cloth.
Other mornings when skin is feeling great or if time isn’t your friend, a few spritzes of the Rose & Geranium Face Mist, can work just as well and a wipe the face over with a warm damp face cloth.
PM – This is the time to double cleanse. The first cleanse done with Babs Facial Cleansing Oil helps to breakdown and remove makeup/sunscreen/the day. Being quite liberal with the oils – 3-5 pumps allows you to give the skin a good facial massage while helping the oil bind to all makeup and dirt.
When you’re ready to remove, wet a face cloth with warm water and gently wipe off.
The second cleanse using the Gentle Foaming Cleanser helps to remove any residual oil, dirt and makeup.
Morning and night after cleansing, spritz with our Rose and Geranium Face Mist. This gently balances and soothes the skin adding hydration, which primes the skin for our moisturising products – especially oils.
(It’s also super versatile and amazing for a ton of other things too – helps to set makeup, great for after sun or in the esky at the beach, around 3pm or heading out after work, in aircon etc. for more info read here.)
Allow the majority of the face mist to absorb and then it’s onto our Hydration Face Serum – this little serum is sooo good!
It’s a huge hydration boost for the skin. A lightweight gel like consistency that isn’t sticky and packed with skin soothing, hydrating and correcting ingredients including Niacinamide and Hyaluronic acid to promote healthy, supple and glowing skin.
Use 2-4 pumps all over my face, neck and décolletage, allowing it all but to sink in – we are applying oil over the top so we want a little moisture on the skin.
When it comes to oils and hydrating products, it’s best to compare our skin to a sponge.
A dry sponge isn’t able to absorb or wipe up as much of a spill as a wet cloth – this is similar to our skin. If our skin is really dry and we apply product over it without some hydration to prepare the skin – our skin is going to need a hell of a lot of product for our skin to absorb the nutrients deep down into the epidermis.
Finally finish with an oil.
AM – The Olive Squalane or Jojoba Oil are lightweight and work beautifully under makeup.
PM – Our Rosehip & Hemp Face Oil is a gorgeous rich blend of super nourishing oils which are amazing as a night time oil. But all can be used interchangeably.
Rosehip & Hemp Face Oil is richer than the other two oils which is why I like to use it more in winter or at night.
Jojoba Oil is really close to our own sebum and sits in the medium oil feel but is wonderful for oily or acne/breakout prone skin.
Olive Squalane is fast becoming a best seller (our Rosehip & Hemp Face Oil is still our most popular oil) and it’s easy to understand why – it’s amazing as a base/primer for makeup, sunscreen etc. It’s super lightweight, silky and odourless – works to prevent dehydration and is a perfect moisturiser for humid, hot, summer days.
The other products in our range are the ones I use a few times during the week.
Facial Exfoliant Scrub & Mask – I like to use this 2-3 times a week and find it easy to apply in the shower after cleansing. I pour a little more than a 20 cent piece amount in my palm, add a squirt of Facial Cleansing Oil or Foaming Cleanser and a little water to make a paste. Then I gently massage it onto my skin. For the brightening mask leave it while washing your hair and then rinse off. I use the face cloth
Gua Sha – about 3-5 times a week. I did a blog about the benefits and how to use here.
Pink Clay & Cacao Face Mask – this is a once a week ritual and another one I like to apply before I hop in the shower – it’s messy, so easier to remove in the shower. Cacao is rich in antioxidants, promotes blood flow and circulation. A blend of pink, yellow and red clay hold gentle cleansing and detoxifying properties to help draw impurities to the surface to improve the appearance of the skin. I’ve got an Instagram video on how I mix it – I use about 1 1/2 teaspoons of powder, mix with a pump of the cleansing oil and a few squirts of face mist to get a nice consistency and apply with a brush. Remove it before it totally dries as when a mask completely dries out it can take more moisture from your skin and we want it to cleanse and detoxify without removing moisture.
Then I finish with the above AM or PM skin care routine.
