In Face

What can give you healthy, hydrated, moisturised, nourished, glowing skin?  Oils! Yep, oils do just that and more!

Here at Babs we love Face oils and while sometimes it’s thought that facial oils are for the winter months, they really are beneficial to skin year round.   So we’re breaking down our three Face oils – what they do, how they work and which one is best suited to your skin.

Whether you’re new to oils, want to know which one to try or looking to switch it up (depending on season) we’ve got you covered.

Why oils work
Our skin is made up of Lipids – this is the skin’s natural fats that protect and maintain the skin’s protective barrier – it helps keep dirt and impurities out while keeping it moisturised and healthy underneath.  Lipids have a very similar structure to plant derived oils, which are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and have healing benefits that soothe, feed and nourish the skin.

Olive Squalane
Our skin naturally produces squalene which keeps skin youthful and hydrated, however production starts to diminish as we age past our late 20’s. Including this super light weight oil in your routine will help increase hydration.  It’s packed with antioxidants to help fight free radicals. It is an emollient, which soothes and softens skin to maintain the skins health, tone, texture and elasticity, as well as fighting signs of aging

“Such a beautiful product.  I use the Olive Squalane morning and night and my skin feels like silk.  It’s so much better than any of the big brand serums I’ve tried. I’ve even got my husband hooked and it’s doing wonders for his skin that’s seen way too much sun.” – Sharon

Benefits – Antioxidants help to fight free radicals which are the pesky things that can lead to signs of aging and generally dull skin.  Squalane is a hydrating oil that can protect the skin from moisture loss. Is non-comedogenic, so it doesn’t clog pores and absorbs quickly into skin.  Fantastic as a primer for a flawless makeup look.

Who’s it for? – Everyone! But I would really recommend this oil for those who are new to oils. Especially if you don’t want anything heavy on the skin.   Also a great moisturiser for those with dehydrated or combination/oily skin, teenagers who want to start using skincare and it’s even great for men.  A must have for those who live in warmer climates or want a lighter day time oil.  It works wonderfully as a serum, under your morning or night moisturiser.

Texture/Scent – Extremely lightweight, non oily, clear, odourless oil.  Absorbs quickly. Silky finish.

Tip – Apply to clean, freshly washed hair working it into the roots.  This helps tame the fizz and offers some protection from blow drying.

Jojoba Oil
(Pronounced ho-ho-ba) this oil is technically a liquid wax and is almost identical to our own skins natural sebum (the protective layer of oil our skin produces).   It’s versatile and is extremely multi-purpose oil.  Great if you’re after something for the whole family – gentle enough for babies and kids, both for face and body.  As it is similar to our own skin, it’s excellent for those with sensitive, irritated or acne prone skin and may help to treat eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis.  It’s an oil we include in most of our products.

Benefits – Medium weight oil, golden in colour. High in vitamins A, D and E, antioxidants and essential fatty acids.  This golden oil absorbs well, promotes collagen production, retains moisture and helps to condition skin.  It’s also hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and protective.

Who’s it for – Extremely versatile and suitable for the whole family.  Ideal for oily/acne prone skin as it’s properties and similarity to our own sebum helps to balance and control oil production.  Perfect if you’re after a simple oil to treat eczema, dermatitis, easily irritated or sensitive skin. Use as a protective oil under shaving cream for him or even as a super gentle cleansing oil.  AND Jojoba makes the perfect base to blend with your own essential oils.

Texture/scent – Deep golden in colour, absorbs nicely, feels like an oil, light natural oil scent.

Tip – Great as a scalp treatment – mix with a little rosemary essential oil or use on it’s own and massage into scalp to help treat dandruff.

There you have it, our three Facial oils.  What they do and how they work.  And while we do recommend  and feel that you can incorporate any of our facial oils into your skincare routine the general guide is –

If you’re after a light day time oil or have oily skin opt for Olive Squalane.

If you’ve got combination/acne prone skin or are just after a simple and versatile oil for face, body, scalp and the whole family, Jojoba is for you.

But if you’re suffering from dry, sensitive or aging skin or looking for that extra nourishment throughout the cooler months, then Rosehip and Hemp Face Oil is your best bet.

When using an oil….

ALWAYS prepare the skin with an alcohol free toner like our Rose and Geranium Face Mist.  This helps to balance and hydrate the skin, allowing the oil to lock in all that glorious moisture.

BEST way to apply your oil is to start with a freshly cleansed face, apply a toner or floral water face mist and apply 1-3 drops to skin and gently press in.

TRY playing around with your facial oil in different seasons or climates.  You can make your chosen face oil lighter and more hydrating by mixing 1-2 drops into a clean palm with 1-2 spritz’s of your face mist/toner for an instant lightweight emulsion.
