This time of year I tend to feel that my skin needs a little reset or refocus or a little change up in products/routine.
Whether it’s the fact that I spent my summer days at the beach, swimming in salty water and enjoying the sunshine or long days with family and friends where routine can fall by the way side.  Perhaps a combination of both, but with the change in season it’s a great time to have a look at our skincare products and routines, assess what’s working and give our skin a little more TLC.

Here’s several things I’ve been doing recently that my skin’s been loving.

  1. Facials –  It’s been a long while since I’ve had one (maybe 18 months?)  Booking in a facial helps to clear congestion and revive skin.   It’s something doing a few times a year will greatly benefit skin and help you get the most out of your products.

2. Cleansing – Always an important step to remove makeup/dirt/sweat and prepare the skin for your moisturising products.  It helps take off the day and prevent black heads and clogged pores.
I’ve spoken about this previously but changing the time I cleanse my skin has helped immensely.  Why?  Because I actually take the time to do a thorough double cleanse, facial massage etc and allow the products to be absorbed.
After dinner (or as soon as I get home, if I’ve been out) I use our Facial Cleansing Oil and massage into my skin.  This has made a huge difference in that 1. I take a good amount of time to cleanse, massage skin, gua sha, facial cupping etc. and have a proper routine before hopping straight into bed.  It also ensures moisturisers/oils are absorbed into skin and don’t just rub off onto the pillow.

3. Hydration – Inside and out.  My skin has been a little drier than usual.  I guess that’s aging along with change in temperatures,  so I’m making sure I’m drinking plenty of water (sprinkled with a little celtic salt for minerals and proper hydration, incorporating soups for lunch and electrolyte drinks).  Externally, I’ve been making sure I layer – spritzing face mist, serum and have actually incorporated a cream into my routine, which has helped.

4. Collagen and Gelatin – As we age, collagen diminishes so upping our intake via a few ways will help with skin elasticity, gut health, joints and bones.
Ways to up your collagen is through meat stocks, bone broths, slow cooked meat dishes, fish etc.  It also comes in a powder which I like to use in non-savoury dishes. I add collagen powder to pancakes, baked goods and hot drinks – I love adding it into my hot chocolate – cacao, cinnamon, collagen a little maple syrup.
Gelatin is also great for skin and bones and is a larger molecule than collagen but provides similar benefits and I love to make gelatin gummies using cherry or pomegranate juice as a quick pre breakfast snack on my way out in the morning to the beach or quick treat throughout the day.  It’s packed with antioxidants and great for gut, skin, bone and joints.

5. Face Masks – I’ve been incorporating a weekly mask back into my routine.
I’ve been using our Pink Clay and Cacao Face Mask to boost circulation, purify and cleanse.  I mix it with some water and a few drops of oil, and remove before it fully dries out.

I’ve also been using honey as a mask and loving the benefits.  Raw honey is anti bacterial, anti inflammatory and packed with antioxidants.  It’s calming and soothing and great for sensitive skin.  It’s a humectant and attracts moisture.  Even though it’s a little sticky and tacky to apply it actually comes off the skin quite easily with warm water.  To mask – apply directly onto skin, or mix with a little Jojoba oil for ease and massage into skin.  Leave on for 10 minutes and remove with warm water and a face cloth.

These few tips have certainly given my summer skin a lotta TLC and ready to face the cooler months ahead.

Have you tried using honey in your skincare routine?  What routines or weekly regime is your skin loving?
